What is it that has drawn you to shutters? Have you seen them in a magazine or on your travels and thought ‘shutters are for me!’? Whatever your reason for choosing shutters as your window treatment, it’s always a good starting point to understand what it is you want the shutters to do.

The best starting point is to look at your window and what it’s been ‘doing’ up until now. Have you had net curtains up there or venetian blinds that you never pull up? If this is the case, the chances are you won’t open back the shutter panels a lot of the time, and will instead tilt the slats at a slight angle to give you privacy but still let the light in. This can then impact the number of panels your have on your window (see number of panels)

Look around the room and think about how you want the shutters to look. Do you want the shutters to jump out at you when you walk into the room or do you want them to blend in with the overall décor scheme of it? Choosing a bold colour or a large 114mm slat can create a real ‘wow’ factor, but if you’re looking for a calmer, more soothing look, then one of our range of white / off-white shutters may be a better option for you.
