Choosing the Right Shutters Slat Size
We have a wide range of shutter slats to choose from. The smallest we manufacture is 47mm through to the largest at 114mm. In between you have 64mm or 89mm, both of which are the most popular sizes ordered by our customers.
Whichever slat size you decide on for your shutters, they will offer equal privacy when the slats are tilted at an angle. With many customers buying shutters to leave the panels closed over but the slats tilted at a slight angle for privacy, they think that a smaller slat (or louver as it is also called) will offer better privacy. This is not the case, our shutters feature a design where the shutter slats, when tilted, have a generous overlap of around 12mm. This means that when the slats are tilted at a slight angle it would be difficult to see into the room irrespective of which slat size you opt for.

Good shutter design can generally be summed up by the term ‘less is more’. By that, we recommend that you don’t swamp your windows with too many panels, too heavy a colour and too small a slat. Again, it’s personal preference as to which works best for your style of home and there’s always a balance to be had. Smaller 47mm slats look great, but if you have tier on tier shutters with 8 panels on your window, stained black walnut and you also have a dark wood floor the whole effect could be a bit much! However the tall shutters in this photo have 47mm slats and look fantastic in the long corridor of this property.
64mm slats are our most popular seller. They are a nice size, give a clear unobstructed view when tilted at a 90° angle, yet are not so large that they overpower. 89mm slats are the second favourite and this size is increasing in popularity. They offer a slightly more contemporary look but can look a little too heavy if the room décor doesn’t suit.
