Solid Shutters Panels

Plantation shutters have become very popular in recent years but solid shutters, so typical of many period properties, are still a popular choice. You can order your solid shutters in the same range of wood types and range of painted colours and stains as our plantation shutters.
Before deciding if solid shutters will work for your windows, be sure to consider where the shutter panels will open when you fold them back. It’s an obvious statement to make, but remember that solid shutters are just that – solid. In all likelihood you will want to fold open the panels in the daytime and close them over at night. With plantation shutters, you can leave the shutter panels closed over but tilt the slats allowing light into the room, whereas with solid shutters, when the panels are closed, the room will be very dark. For this reason, most customers ordering solid shutters choose panels of a narrower width (around 300mm wide each) meaning that when the panels are opened, they are bi-folded. Therefore a typical window with solid shutters would see 4 panels, 2 hinged left, 2 right.
Solid shutters are mainly ordered by customers who want to replace period features which may have been removed from their property. These are, typically, Victorian style homes which would have had the original boxes at the side of the window for the shutters to fold into. This requires quite careful measuring if you do want to achieve this, but it can be done!
Deciding which design of solid shutters is right for you is simply a matter of choice! You have 2 solid shutters designs to choose from - Solid Shaker or Solid Raised.
Solid Shaker panels have a flat, 'undetailed' solid insert. This is very plain and simple. The Solid Raised design sees a solid insert but with a moulded edge around the solid section.
You can also choose shutters with a solid lower section and slats on the upper area. This works well on doors where you have a solid lower half of the door and then glass on the upper area. You can see on this photo how effective this design is. This image shows shutters with a solid raised panel on the lower half.
