Shutter Measuring Guide for

Outside Mounted Windows

This information will help you successfully measure your shutters. If possible please print this in colour to help you clearly see where you should measure.

For further assistance call us on 0845 017 8990 or email hello@californiashutters.co.uk. We recommend downloading and printing the PDF below which will include our frame templates.

Windows with no recess or reveal generally require the plantation shutters to be outside mounted. This means the shutter frame will be surface mounted on the window framing or wall. The most typical of these window types are sash windows.
In addition to sash windows, an outside mount is recommended when your reveal depth is less than 40mm or you have inward opening windows.

Use a steel tape measure

  • Measure the width at 3 points, left to right. The width you convey will include the frame as shown in the diagrams below.
  • Measure the height at 3 points, top to bottom. Again, the height will include the frame. Your plantation shutters will be supplied with their own frame. The shutter panels are then mounted inside this frame

We supply your plantation shutters with a frame. The shutter panels are mounted inside this frame.
